Drunk Driver Runs into Patrol Car

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On August 20th, around 12:30am, Officers Chris MacMillan and Zachary Beilfuss were assisting a couple whose PT Cruiser has broken down on Fort Campbell Boulevard when a drunk driver ran into the back of MacMillan’s patrol car.

Around 12:16am, a 2001 PT Cruiser broke down, facing southbound in the median, around 1671 Fort Campbell Boulevard. Officer MacMillan in his 2011 Chevy Impala pulled next to the PT Cruiser in the northbound left lane of Fort Campbell Boulevard, activated emergency lights, and got out to assist the occupants of the PT Cruiser.

Officer Beilfuss arrived to help and was in the left southbound lane with the emergency equipment on. Gary Donnelly, 63, and Teresa Donnelly, 56, of Clarksville were looking at a phone book on top of MacMillian’s patrol car when a 95 Chevy S-10, driven by Teresa Jane Garrett, 38, of Clarksville slammed into the back of MacMillian’s patrol car. There no signs of brakes being applied prior to the collision.

The patrol car was forced forward and the spotlight and mirror hit Teresa Donnelly and knocked her into her husband causing them both to fall onto the roadway. The officers were standing within feet of the patrol car and barely escaped being hit. The driver of the S-10, Teresa Garrett, was not wearing a seat belt and was launched forward and hit the steering wheel.

Teresa Donnelly had broken and bruised ribs along with a broken ankle.  Gary Donnelly had a contusion to the arm and also had road rash. They were transported to Gateway by ambulance, treated and released.

Teresa Garrett sustained a jaw injury and damage to her teeth.  Garrett was uncooperative and belligerent and due to the nature of her injuries, and for her safety had to be taken into custody and transported by Police to the hospital for treatment.

Teresa Garrett remained in the hospital and was cited for DUI. More charges are expected.

The lead investigator is Officer John Reyes.
