Fallen Currahee Hero to be posthumously awarded Silver Star

Fort Campbell, KY – The 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division will honor one of their fallen heroes by posthumously awarding him the Silver Star August 25th, 2011 during a ceremony to be held at the 4th BCT Headquarters Building, Fort Campbell, KY.

Specialist Jordan M. Byrd will be posthumously awarded the Silver Star.

Specialist Jordan M. Byrd, a Grantsville, Utah native, was a combat medic serving with 1st Battalion of the 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th BCT, 101st Airborne Division in Paktika Province, Afghanistan when he was killed in action October 13th, 2010 while providing lifesaving aid to a fallen comrade during dismounted operations.

Specialist Byrd joined the Army in September 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell in April 2010. His previous awards include: Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
