Fatal Accident Crash at the intersection of 101st Airborne Division Parkway and Trenton Road

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On August 23rd, 2011, around 7:01pm, there was a fatal accident crash at the intersection of the 101st Airborne Division Parkway and Trenton Road. A 1988 GMC tractor trailer, driven by Robert Gillespie, 73, of North Carolina traveling south on Trenton Road ran the red light at the intersection of the 101st Airborne Division Parkway and Trenton Road.

He collided with driver side of 2002 Lexus traveling east on the 101st Airborne Division Parkway driven by a 63 year old Clarksville man. The impact from the tractor trailer pushed the Lexus into a Nissan Altima, driven by Venus Crump, 43, of Clarksville, which was stationary in the north bound lane of Trenton Road.

The Nissan spun around and ended up in a nearby field area off of Trenton Road and the Lexus was forced off into the grassy area bordering the shoulder of Trenton Road. The tractor trailer came to rest facing east across the north and south bound lanes of Trenton Road.

The driver of the Lexus died at the scene. Venus Crump and Robert Gillespie were transported by ambulance to Gateway. Venus Crump had an ankle injury and Robert Gillespie had a laceration to his arm. Gillespie was treated and released.

Robert Howard Gillespie is being charged with Vehicular Homicide and Two Counts of Reckless Endangerment.

The name of the fatality victim will be released after notification of family members.
