We are glad you’re here

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division
Fort Campbell KY, Home of the 101st Airborne Division

Make no mistake, Clarksville Tennessee is blessed to have the greatest fighting force on the planet right in our backyard; Fort Campbell Kentucky the home of the “Screaming Eagles.” Not only do they help protect the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, but they also provide  a much needed economic stimulus to the local economy.

When I run into soldiers while I am out and about, it is something I’m grateful for.  It gives me a chance to tell them thank you, and to find out more about their lives. As a talk show host, I”m always curious to hear what others think of our community,

I met a soldier at the car wash the other day and we struck up a conversation about Clarksville.

He told me that the first time he and his family were stationed here,  they decided that this is where they wanted to retire.

They were originally from Evansville Indiana. He told me that his kids had made friends here, were getting a great education. Both he and his wife had made some great friends as well.

He told me that we were close to Nashville, had great recreational opportunities, and felt like this was a place they would settle.  Cool huh? We natives take so much for granted.

We talked about his FOUR deployments to Iraq, and Afghanistan, and how he was the “XO” of his unit.  It really puts things in perspective when a guy who has done so much for me, appreciates our community when it seems we are constantly “bitching” about something all the time. I don’t think they’re too concerned about who’s on the Parking Authority, or who chairs the Gas and Water committee.

I appreciate the military. So to all of the Soldiers I would like to say “Welcome to Clarksville sir.  We’re glad you’re here!”
