Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team is set for its home opener when it hosts Union (Tenn.), 7:00pm, Tuesday, at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field. All APSU soccer games are free to the public.

Tuesday’s match is the first of a three-game homestand for the Lady Govs, which continues with a Friday match against Western Kentucky, followed by a Sunday tilt against future Ohio Valley Conference member Belmont.

“We’re focused on our team,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “We’ve got a stretch here at home and we’re looking to see how we can improve each and every day. We want to get better every day, as a team. That’s our primary goal.

The Lady Govs have enjoyed a week off after opening the season with a road-trip sweep that included a 14-0 win at Alabama A&M and a 4-0 victory at Chattanooga. Such an offensive outburst already has moved this season’s team into seventh on the single-season scoring charts.

Tatiana ArizaAustin Peay’s offense was bolstered by sophomore Tatiana Ariza, who scored five goals and had four assists over two games, while freshman Claire Pultz also tallied five goals. Pultz, in fact, had four goals alone against Alabama A&M.

The most impressive aspect of two dynamic strikers was their efficiency. Together, they had 10 goals on 16 shots.

Junior Emily Perkins also has four goals heading into the home stretch. Sophomore Andy Quiceno, meanwhile, had three assists, while sophomore Natalia Ariza had two assists.

Mackenzie LaddAside from all the goals, the Lady Govs defense played the role of unsung hero. The two keepers, senior Mackenzie Ladd and sophomore Haylee Shoaff have split time evenly thus far, facing only 10 shots in two games. The back line of sophomores Emily Kink and Corey Osborn, along with midfielders Jocelyn Murdoch and Joceline Quiceno have helped maintain control of the game.

Union (Tenn.) is coming off a 2-0 win at Reinhardt (GA) College in its season opener. Ashley Watson accounted for both goals, while Emily Warren worked the shutout making six saves.

This is the first meeting all-time between the two teams.
