Austin Peay scored the game’s first goal off a corner kick in the 25th minute. A shot by sophomore Tatiana Ariza set up the corner by sophomore Emily Kink. Kink connected with junior Jocelyn Murdoch for a header to put the Lady Govs on top, 1-0.

The equalizer came just 10 minutes later when South Alabama’s Jasmine Sanders hit a one-timer in the 35th minute that ricocheted off the post and past the keeper, tying the game at 1-1.

Jocelyn Murdoch“It was a pretty even match I thought,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “It went back and forth several times. We scored first and then they countered off a defensive breakdown. They got in again in the second half. Our defense just didn’t do what they needed to do today.”

Austin Peay’s defense came up short again in allowing the gamewinner with less than 10 minutes to play. As the Jaguars pushed down the field, a quick throw-in behind the defense set a Jaguar striker in position for goal in the 82nd minute.

Emily PerkinsJunior Emily Perkins and sophomore Natalia Ariza each had shots on goal in the game’s final minutes, but it was not enough. Murdoch and Natalia Ariza each had four shots for APSU, while sophomore keeper Haylee Shoaff made seven saves.

Murdoch, who scored Austin Peay’s only goal was named the Copies in a Flash Player of the Game.

Tatiana Ariza, Jocelyn Murdoch and Emily Perkins were each All-Tournament selection.

Austin Peay continues its season’s longest road trip with a Thursday match at Lipscomb, before traveling to Cincinnati for a Sunday tilt at Xavier.
