Lady Govs golf in fifth place after two rounds in Drake Creek Invitational

Ledbetter, KY – Sophomore Tabitha Beard shot an even-par 72 to highlight Austin Peay State University’s first two rounds of the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational, being played at the 6,178-yard Drake Creek Golf Club.

After shooting an 80 in Monday morning’s opening round, Beard shot a career-best 72 in the afternoon to put her at 152. Junior Lauren Bond was the Lady Govs’ most consistent performer, shooting a pair of sub-80 rounds, a three-over 75 in the morning and 79 in the afternoon for a 154.

APSU’s Hardin Publishes Two New Editions of Popular Education Books

Clarksville, TN – One of the most important skills an education student needs to learn before taking a job as a new teacher is how to manage a classroom properly. Without this ability, all of his or her training and good intentions will slip away in the face of unruly or uninterested students.

But as public school classrooms became more diverse in the early 1990s, a single strategy for managing students no longer seemed practical. Dr. Carlette Hardin, dean of the Austin Peay State University College of Education, decided to collect some of the best management models being practiced in classrooms across the country, and in 2004, she published her findings in a new textbook titled “Effective Classroom Management: Models and Strategies for Today’s Classrooms.” «Read the rest of this article»

September Eagle Remembrance Ceremony

Fort Campbell, KY – A remembrance ceremony honoring Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, is scheduled for 4:00pm September 14th at the Family Resource Center.

Remembrance ceremonies are held to honor fallen Soldiers deployed in support of Operations New Dawn and Enduring Freedom and are held monthly, as needed.

Lady Govs much improved in first round of MSU tourney

Ledbetter, KY – Austin Peay women’s golf team displayed much improvement, Monday morning, in the first round of the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational, but still found itself in seventh place heading into the day’s second round.

The tourney is being played on the par 72, 6178-yard Drake Creek Golf Club.

Land Between the Lakes’s 5th Annual Elk and Bison Prairie Celebration

Golden Pond, KY – Celebrate the wonders of the Elk & Bison Prairie (EBP) Saturday, September 17th, from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Golden Pond Visitor Center (GPVC) in Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.

Explore the beauty, wildlife, and history of the EBP during its most active time of year, the GPVC will host the free celebration. The EBP’s Bugle Corps, “Friends of LBL” interpretive staff, local historians, and Forest Service personnel will be on-hand to help you learn about the prairie and provide hands-on displays about the animals and plants living in the prairie.  There will be an on-going historical hunting presentation by Rob Smith with the atlatl.

Clarksville Police release name of Deceased Man

Clarksville, TN – The Clarksville Police Department released the name of the body found September 9th on Strawberry Alley today. The deceased man’s name is Gregory Leon Bartee. Bartee was a homeless person living in Clarksville, TN.

Police are awaiting autopsy results, but there is nothing to indicate foul play.

Veteran education professor to speak about online reading in Provost Lecture Series

Clarksville, TN – With the technological advent of e-books, e-readers and other digital innovations, reading material has moved from print media to online. And the process of reading on a computer screen can be different – an aspect that a veteran Austin Peay State University professor will address.

Dr. Donald Luck, a professor of education who has taught at APSU for 18 years, will present the next session in the weekly Provost Lecture Series at 3:00pm, Thursday, September 15th in the Morgan University Center, Room 307. The title of his presentation is “Reading in the Web Environment.”

City of Clarksville to Fundraise to Save the Smith-Trahern Mansion

Clarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville made an announcement Friday night at the Riverfest Amatuer & Professional Art Exhibit involving the future of the Smith-Trahern mansion.
