City of Clarksville to Fundraise to Save the Smith-Trahern Mansion

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The City of Clarksville made an announcement Friday night at the Riverfest Amatuer & Professional Art Exhibit involving the future of the Smith-Trahern mansion.

The City is embarking on a fundraising campaign to raise money for repairs to the mansion. This mid-19th century home is one of the oldest homes still in existence in Clarksville today and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mayor Kim McMillan and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department are working together along with other city leaders and city departments to fundraise for repairs to the home because we believe that the Smith-Trahern Mansion is an important asset for the community to promote tourism, history of our community, and to continue providing a venue for some of Clarksville’s most beloved events.

The City of Clarksville plans to work with several non-profit organizations, community businesses, and individuals to promote awareness for the Save the Smith-Trahern Mansion campaign.

One individual has already come forward and offered her support. Local artist Lynne Waters Griffey heard about the city’s dilemma with Smith-Trahern Mansion and wanted to do something to help the city if she could. Griffey painted a watercolor of the Smith-Trahern and has offered to let the City use her painting to fundraise for repairs to the mansion.

The City is currently selling prints of Mrs. Griffey’s painting at the Parks and Recreation Office and at Fort Defiance Interpretive Center.  Proceeds from the sale of these prints will directly benefit the Save the Smith-Trahern Mansion fundraising campaign. You can purchase an 11” x 14” print for $50.00 or a 9” x 12” print for $30.00.
