Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – An atypical Thursday night game turned into a shutout win for Austin Peay State University women’s soccer team, 5-0, against Lipscomb, at Cofer Chapel Field.

Five different players scored as the Lady Govs (6-2) battled to overcome last weekend’s lost at South Alabama. Austin Peay – the nation’s highest scoring team – ran like a well-oiled machine against the Bisons (2-5-1), scoring two first-half goals and finishing with three in final 45 minutes.

“Our team came out very focused and determined to turn things around,” head coach Kelley Guth said. “We did a great job all the way around, front to back. We made some adjustments during the week and the team responded well to them.”

Junior Jocelyn Murdoch scored the game’s first goal, from sophomore Tatiana Ariza, on a set piece inside the box. The next goal came in the 19th minute off a corner kick by sophomore Corey Osborn. It was sophomore center back Emily Kink finding the back of the net – her season’s first goal.

Jocelyn MurdochIt took until the 76th minute for Austin Peay to score again and this time it was Tatiana Ariza, in a one-on-one situation, beating the Lipscomb keeper. It was Ariza’s 11th goal, matching her 2010 season total.

The twin connection paid off in the 80th minute when sophomore Andy Quiceno found her sister Joceline Quiceno with a cross into the box to make it 4-0, Austin Peay. Freshman Bianca Melito scored the game’s final goal in the 89th minute.

Tatiana ArizaNot only was Austin Peay’s offense firing on all cylinders, the defense limited Lipscomb to only four shots with one on goal. The Lady Govs, meanwhile, totaled 22 shots – the most since having 38 shots against Alabama A&M in the season opener.

Tatiana Ariza, who led APSU with a goal and an assist, was the Copies in a Flash Player of the Game.

Austin Peay gets an unusual two-day break before returning to action with a noon, Sunday, match at Xavier.
