Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team will play in three fall tournaments, while also facing a road-laden schedule during the 2011-12 season.
“We’re excited to this season started and ready to face a much more difficult schedule,” head coach Malik Tabet said. “We’ve added some tough teams like Memphis, Troy, Louisiana-Lafayette and MTSU. Our team is getting more experienced and with the results we’ve produced, our players are ready to take our program to new challenges.”
The Lady Govs open their fall slate this weekend at the MT Shootout, hosted by Middle Tennessee. From there, they will play in the University of Kentucky’s fall tournament, September 30th-October 2nd, before hosting the Austin Peay Fall Invite, October 7th-9th.Among teams participating in the Austin Peay Fall Invite are regional foes Belmont and Lipscomb, as well as Ohio Valley Conference member SIU Edwardsville, Kennesaw State and NAIA-member Lindsey Wilson (ranked 14th in 2011 final ITA poll). Fall play wraps up at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, October 14th-19th, hosted by Memphis.
Spring play opens with a pair of home matches against Memphis and Evansville, in late January, before closing the opening month at Louisville. The Louisville matches initiates a challenging three-match road trip that includes back-to-back matches at Samford and Alabama-Birmingham, February 3rd-4th. The Lady Govs then return home to face Southern Illinois and Lipscomb.
The next month will see Austin Peay play six of its nine matches on the road, including duals at Troy, South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee. Ohio Valley Conference play begins with a March 16th match against SIU Edwardsville. The Lady Govs go on the road to face Southeast Missouri and UT Martin in March, but host Eastern Illinois and Murray State.
Tennessee State and Jacksonville State wrap up the home conference slate during the last weekend in March. Those matches set the table for Death Valley, as the Lady Govs close the regular season with matches at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State, while the OVC Championship is set for its new home in Nashville, April 20th-22nd.
