The nine-team tournament will feature two other Ohio Valley Conference schools, host SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois. In addition, Southern Illinois Carbondale, South Dakota, Nebraska-Omaha, Evansville, Missouri Baptist and IPFW will play in the nine-team event.

The Lady Govs will take a team that will feature two juniors (newcomer Lauren Bond and Holly Batey), two sophomores (Tabitha Beard and Rachel Deaton) and one freshman Marta Gutierrez. Bond finished seventh at the MSU Drake Creek Invitational with a trio of sub-80 scores. The Lady Govs, meanwhile, rallied for a fifth-place finish in the event.

Holly BateyAPSU coach Sara Robson was impressed by the number of birdies and pars the Lady Govs achieved in the Kentucky event, but was disappointed by high number of double and triple bogeys. The Lady Govs hope to do no worse than a year ago, when they finished second in their first entry into the event.

“After having a week off we are ready to get back into tournament mode,” APSU coach Sara Robson.  “The girls have been working hard on their weaknesses and are prepared for their next challenge.

“It will be imperative for us to minimize the big numbers.  Big numbers really hurt us last week and our goals will be to stay focused on one shot at a time and to stay away from big numbers.”
