Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

Indoor Aquatic Center now open

Indoor Aquatic Center - New ProvidenceThe Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence has opened for the season! Pool passes purchased opening week thru October 7, will be 10% off! Be sure to visit recpro.cityofclarksville.com for all the new programming and classes that will be offered like Teen Night, Wibit Wednesdays, Instructional and Fitness Swimming and much more.

This year, swimmers not only have the option of buying a pool pass, but can also purchase the new “Scan & Swim” tag that can be used for admission to the pool or specialty classes offered at the Center.

Scan & Swim Tags can be purchased now at the Parks & Recreation Main office in increments of $30, $60 or $90.

Save the Smith-Trahern Mansion

Help the City of Clarksville preserve one of the oldest and most beloved historic homes in the downtown area. Your purchase of a watercolor print of the Mansion by Lynne Walter Griffey or generous donation could make a real difference in saving this treasure from further deterioration. Prices are as follows: 11” x 14” unframed print – $50, 9” x 12” unframed print – $30, note cards with envelopes – special order. Prints are available for sale at Fort Defiance Interpretive Center and the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Office.

Bark in the Park

Bring your 4-legged family members for a day of contest, demonstrations, prizes and more at our Fall Bark Park event. The event will take place October 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bark Park located at Heritage Park. Businesses that promote dog-related programs, services and products are encouraged to apply by visiting the Parks and Recreation Office at 102 Public Square or going online to www.cityofclarksville.com to download a form. Applications must be received by October 3.

Kleeman Haunted Mansion

Kleeman Haunted MansionCome for a night of fun and frights at the Kleeman Community Center located at 166 Cunningham Lane. The haunting will take place October 28 & 29 from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost is $2 for adults (Ages 18 and up) and $1 for children (Ages 6-17).

Fright on Franklin

Fright on FranklinThe 3rd Annual Fright on Franklin, presented by City of Clarksville and Planter’s Bank, will once again offer safe trick-or-treating. Local businesses will line the streets in Downtown Clarksville on Saturday, October 29 to pass out candy. Fright on Franklin activities will begin at 4 p.m. with the Costume Contest kicking off at 5 p.m. Contest participants must register by 4:30 pm, October 28th at the Parks and Recreation office or online at recpro.cityofclarksville.com. The contest is free to enter and open to ages 0 to 17 Prizes will be awarded. Register early, only the first 40 registrants will be accepted for each age group.

Coaches Needed

The Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s youth recreation basketball league is in need of volunteer coaches for teams during the upcoming season. Teams are made up of children ages 7 to 17. Practices begin November 1 and games begin December 3. All interested coaches may contact Tina Boysha at the 645-7476.
