October Eagle Remembrance Ceremony Planned

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division

Fort Campbell, KY – A remembrance ceremony honoring Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, is scheduled for 4:00pm October 12th at the Division Headquarters.

Remembrance ceremonies are held to honor fallen Soldiers deployed in support of Operations New Dawn and Enduring Freedom and are held monthly, as needed.

The October ceremony will honor the following fallen Fort Campbell Soldiers:

Jeremy R. Summers

Jeremy R. SummersSergeant Jeremy R. Summers, 27, of Mount Olivet, KY, died July 14th, of wounds suffered from small arms fire while on dismounted patrol July 13th in Paktika province, Afghanistan. Summers was a fire support specialist assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

He joined the Army in March 2005 and arrived at Fort Campbell in August 2009. His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Achievement Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korea Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal; and Combat Action Badge.

Summers is survived by his mother, Laura Jo Summers; and father, Kenneth M. Summers; both of Mount Olivet, KY.

Rafael A. Nieves Jr.

Rafael A. Nieves JrSpecialist Rafael A. Nieves Jr., 22, of Albany, NY, died July 10th, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with small-arms and rocket-propelled grenade fires while on a mounted patrol in Paktika province, eastern Afghanistan. Nieves was an infantryman assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

He joined the Army in August 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell in December 2009. His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star; North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and Army Service Ribbon.

Nieves Jr. is survived by his spouse, Sarah A. McKinney; daughter, Emma Grace Nieves; son, Rafael A. Nieves III, all of Oak Grove, Ky.; father, Rafael A. Nieves Sr. of Schenectady, NY; and mother, Tina R. Roman of Bayonne, NJ.

Anthony M. Nunn

Anthony M. NunnPrivate 1st Class Anthony M. Nunn, 19, of Burnet, Texas, died May 30th, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device while on dismounted patrol in Nike District, Paktika Province, Afghanistan. Nunn was an Infantryman assigned to Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

He joined the Army in June 2010 and arrived at Fort Campbell in October 2010. His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Bar; North Alantic Treaty Organization Medal; Combat Infantry Badge;Combat and Special Skill Badge Basic Marksmanship Qual Badge.

Nunn is survived by his father, Ted A. Nunn of Gainsville, Texas; mother, Christina Bennefield of Prosper, Texas; brother, Matthew A. Nunn of Gainesville, Texas and sister, Savanna R. Nunn of Prosper, Texas.
