Go Commando another jewel in Clarksville

Clarksville, TN – I am not a runner.  I am barely a walker, but I have many friends who enjoy running.  My daughter has taken an interest in running and I could not be more proud.  The “Go Commando” half marathon this past weekend proves that this event is poised to be one of the best in the country.

The Clarksville Convention and Visitors Bureau took over managing this event after the previous organizer proved to be, how shall I put it, “unpopular”.  I was not that close to the race when it first started, but I kept hearing things that weren’t good.

When that promoter tried to bring the race back to Clarksville, local sponsors and organizers were not willing to work with them.  The CVB wouldn’t have anything to do with them either, and the race looked like it had no future here.  That is where the good people of Clarksville come in.

This year, the good people of our Chamber of Commerce, and CVB director Theresa Harrington, grabbed the bull by the horns and hosted a great event.  Presented as the inaugural Liberty Park event, and benefiting the YMCA restore Ministry, YMCA ABC Outreach Program and the Wings of Liberty-Fort Campbell Historical Foundation, over 800 runners participated.

It took a lot of work, a lot of sponsors, manpower and support, not to mention volunteers. But that is nothing new to the CVB.  Need I remind you of Rivers and Spires?

Clarksville has so many great events here, many of which bring visitors to our restaurants, hotels, shopping centers and more.  This year’s event was especially unique as it focused the community on the developing Liberty Park, Marina facility which is going to be an awesome place.

I’m proof that you never get enough “attaboys” for what you do, but like me, this event is not about recognition, it is about Clarksville.  ATTABOY!
