Sawdust starts fire at Atlanta Hardwoods

Clarksville Fire RescueClarksville, TN – Clarksville Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the former Averitt Lumber Company on Dover Road.  Stations 1, 5, and 6 responded to the call according to Clarksville Fire Rescue spokesman Ray Williams.

The fire started in a back building where sawdust accumulates. There were no injuries.  The plant is now the Atlanta Hardwoods plant.  The conditions for a major fire exist with the remnants of the company’s by-product.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, but believe it could have been “smoldering” before it was discovered by employees. Firefighters had to cut a hole through part of the roof at the facility to get a better look at the fire, and fight it efficiently.

Company officials have not been available for comment.

There will be more updates on this story as they become available.
