Richmond, KY – Austin Peay State University women’s cross country is prepared as they enter the Ohio Valley Conference Championship’s 10:30am, five-kilometer race, Saturday, at The Arlington Golf Course.
The Lady Govs have hit their stride in their past three races finishing in 11th of 32 teams at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, then recorded their only team victory at the KSU Thorobred Classic, and finished the regular season with a third-place team finish at the Fast Cats Classic.“The women’s team is anxious and chomping at the bit to run it,” said head coach Doug Molnar. “We are well rested and ready to have a peak performance. We’ve been running better and better each week and have made some large gains over the last month.”
Sophomore Xiamar Richards enters the OVC Championships averaging an 11th-place finish, including four top-10 finishes. Among those top-10 finishes are two individual victories for Richards at the GSU Invitational and the KSU Thorobred Classic.
The five-time defending OVC Champions Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels will be the Lady Govs toughest challenge. The Colonels return two First-Team All-OVC runners, including the 2009 OVC Runner of the Year Picoty Leitich.
