APSU Percussion Ensemble holds 26th Annual Halloween Concert

The APSU Music DepartmentClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Percussion Ensemble held their 26th annual Halloween Concert on Friday. The sell out performances featured Music department students and faculty dressed in costumes while performing on a ghoulishly decorated stage.

ā€œItā€™s a big party,ā€ said Dr David Steinquest, ā€œIt is a fun musical event too. Itā€™s not ā€˜Saw VIIā€™ or anything like that. Itā€™s not ugly, scary or gruesome. Itā€™s very family friendly.ā€ Steinquest served as primary conductor, and was backed up on the podium by Greg Wolynec and John Schnettler.

ā€œThe theme for this year was magic, and included several highly recognizable numbers such as like the The Sorcererā€™s Apprentice, from Fantasia, Gustav Holstā€™s The Planets, an original interpretation of Mozartā€™s Queen of the Night, from his opera The Magic Flute played using plastic ā€œboom whackerā€ tubes.Ā  One of my favorite moments was when the lovely DesirĆ©e Dolan serenaded the crowd with her amazing vocal abilities.

The concert helps to raise money to support The Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen. If you decide to go next year, get your tickets as soon as they go on sale, the tickets go fast.
