BBB Celebrates Half Century of Service

Greater Nashville Better Business BureauNashville, TN – 350 Middle Tennessee business people were in attendance at the BBB Middle Tennessee 50th Anniversary Celebration event held at the Renaissance Nashville hotel, November 1st.  Jennifer Kraus, Investigative Reporter, NewsChannel5 welcomed attendees and served as Emcee for the evening.

Organized in 1961 as the Greater Nashville Better Business Bureau, 510 Nashville businesses signed the corporate record as Charter-Founding Members and pledged financial support for BBB’s first year operating budget. 50 original Charter Members have remained BBB supporting Members for the past 5 decades.

Charter Members attending the celebration event were recognized with a reproduction of the 1961 Charter Certificate of Membership and a 1961-2012 plaque honoring their 50 year commitment to BBB’s mission of ethics in business.

Anthony Hanna, Donelson Christian Academy, Nashville, TN was named  2011 BBB Student of Integrity and awarded a $3,000 scholarship from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee. Student of Integrity Finalists, Sarah Ooi, Ravenwood High School, Brentwood and Michelle Undis, Waverly Central High School, Waverly, TN both received $1,000 scholarships.

Author speaker, Clifton Lambreth, delivered an inspiring keynote message on the timeless wisdom, character and servant leadership that is necessary for long term success.

“Few organizations have the rich heritage of service to consumers and businesses that distinguishes the history of the BBB of Middle Tennessee. That our BBB has prospered and grown is very meaningful, said Bob Van Cleave, 2011/12 Chairman of the BBB Board of Directors. “It emphasizes that deeply held principles of truth in advertising, fair play, taking care of your customers and simply doing the right thing is as important today as it was in 1961.”

Peter Woolfolk, 50th Anniversary committee Chair, presented a Resolution from Representative Jim Cooper, recognizing BBB’s important role in fostering ethical business standards which is sustained by individual integrity.

From modest beginnings in 1961 BBB Middle TN has since maintained a remarkable vitality and influence throughout Middle TN and the nation. BBB services will exceed 3 million in 2011 with the vast majority of users checking out companies before doing business.
