Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay opens the 2011-12 regular-season campaign with a 7:00pm, Friday contest against Southern Illinois at the Dunn Center. The Lady Govs are 20-15 (.571) all-time in home openers, but lost last season’s home opener to Middle Tennessee.

Austin Peay is 2-3 in home openers under head coach Carrie Daniels.

College Street Lanes Closed

Clarksville Gas and Water DepartmentClarksville, TN – Clarksville Gas and Water construction crews have closed both southbound lanes and the turning lane on College Street from Eighth Street to North Seventh Street for road repairs. The work is expected to be complete and the road reopened by 5:00pm this afternoon.

Traffic will be detoured to Eighth Street and Main Street.

Man Shoots himself in the Foot

 

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On November 9th, 2011, Officer Teddy Burns was dispatched to Gateway Emergency Room about a man with a gunshot wound to his left foot.

The victim, Montavius Harris, told the officer that he was walking out of an apartment on University Avenue, was carrying a handgun in his waistband, dropped it on the ground, and the firearm discharged one round into his left foot shattering some bones.

U.S. Soccer to host 2012 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Nashville Tennessee

 

Olympic Qualifying Tournament to Take Place from March 22nd-April 2nd; Top Two Teams Qualify for 2012 Olympic Games in London Next Summer

U.S. SoccerNew York, NY – U.S. Soccer and the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today that the United States will host the 2012 Men’s Olympic qualifying tournament from March 22nd to April 2nd in Nashville, TN; Carson, CA; and Kansas City, KS. The tournament will determine both of the confederation’s representatives at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The eight-nation tournament consists of two four-team groups, with the top two finishers from each group advancing to the semifinals. The semifinal winners will advance to the tournament final and book their tickets to London. «Read the rest of this article»

However, that task may be easier said than done with a 6:30pm, Friday visit to second-place Southeast Missouri, followed by what could be a crucial 6:00pm, Saturday contest at sixth-place Murray State – one of the teams the Lady Govs are tied with heading into the final weekend.

American Red Cross assists Paddock Place Apartments Fire Victims

 

Apartment Fire damages 8 units, 13 people from 7 Families Affected, one person hospitalized
American Red CrossClarksville, TN – At about 11:45pm yesterday evening a huge fire broke out at the Paddock Place Apartment Building in Clarksville located at 2655 Union Hall Road. 8 units sustained heavy, fire, smoke, and water damage displacing with 13 people from 7 different families, with one person hospitalized.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County Chapter of the American Red Cross (CMC) was at the scene immediately meeting the needs of the residents and rehabbing fire fighters with food. An Emergency Aid Station was set up, to help both residents and responding emergency personnel.
