Sticking close to home, Austin Peay Lady Govs Basketball signs Clarksville’s Gray

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team found one of the nation’s best guards in its own backyard, Clarksville High School product Tiasha Gray signing a national letter of intent to join the program in 2012-13, head coach Carrie Daniels announced Saturday.

Gray, a 5-6 guard, missed her junior season due to a knee injury but will return for the 2011-12 campaign at Clarksville High School. Despite the injury, ESPN’s HoopGurlz.com had her ranked 72nd nationally at her position with its scouts evaluating her as “lean, athletic and quick at the point.” Rick Bolus High Potential Recruiting Service placed Gray among its “Second 12” of Tennessee’s top recruits in its May 2011 ranking, following her injury.

“We cannot be more excited about Tiasha Gray choosing to stay home,” said Daniels. “She is such a talent at the point guard position and has worked her tail off coming back from her injury. Tiasha not only can set up an offense, see the floor and make passes on a dime, but also get to the rim and shoot the ball. She is an all around guard and the sky is the limit if she continues to push herself and work each and every day on her game, which I have no doubt she will do.”
