Parks and Rec Report for November 20th

Clarksville Parks and RecreationClarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

  • Christmas on the Cumberland Opening
  • Clarksville’s Christmas Parade
  • Indoor Aquatic Center Activities including Wibit Wednesday, Scuba Class, and Group swim passes
  • Adult Volleyball League
  • Winter Gym

Christmas on the Cumberland to Open Tuesday

The Christmas on the Cumberland Grand Opening Celebration is set for November 22 at McGregor Park. Join us at 6:30pm to watch the entire RiverWalk come to life with over one million lights! This popular Christmas on the Cumberland walk-through event will be open through January 3. Event hours are 5-10 p.m., Sunday through Thursday and 5-11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Throughout the event, there will be several scheduled free weekend activities. For more information, visit www.cityofclarksville.com.

Christmas Parade

Register today for the 52nd Annual Christmas Parade, hosted by The City of Clarksville and the Montgomery County Government. This year’s theme is “Home for the Holidays” and is scheduled for December 3rd starting at 5 p.m.

Parade entry forms are available at the city’s three community centers, the Parks and Recreation office, and online at mcgtn.org. You can also log on to recpro.cityofclarksville.com to register and to find out more information.

School’s out, Come to the Dome

All ages are welcome to come to the Indoor Aquatic Center, Wednesday, November 23 for “Wibit Wednesday” featuring the “Aqua Run” wibit, a floating inflatable obstacle course. Cost is only $2 for a wristband plus $3 for all day admission.

*NEW* Group Passes Available

The Indoor Aquatic Center has a new option for those wanting to purchase pool passes at the Indoor Aquatic Center at New Providence. Not only can individual or family passes (individuals living in the same household) be purchased, but group passes are now available. Group passes are ideal for friends, co-workers, or any other groups of two or more. Group rates are as follows: 2 people- $320, 3 people- $340, 4 people- $360, 5 people- $380, 6 people- $400.

Try Scuba Class

The Indoor Aquatic Center will hold its first introductory class Saturday, December 17 at 2 p.m. for those wanting to get a taste of the scuba experience and an overview of what is involved in Scuba Certification (coming in March 2012). Register today! We must have 10 people pre-registered to proceed with the class. Class is $25 and open to ages 10 and up. Visit http://recpro.cityofclarksville.com for more information.

Adult Volleyball League Seeks Players

Are you or your group/ organization interested in playing volleyball? This new league is open to anyone ages 18 and up and costs $20 per player. Individuals or teams can register at any of our three community centers or at the Parks & Recreation office, December 5 through January 6. All games will be held at the Kleeman Community Center, located at 166 Cunningham Lane. For more information, please call 647-3056.

Winter Gym

Every year, the Parks & Recreation Department and the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System partner to provide a free winter gymnasium program for recreational basketball free play. The program is offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at Byrns-Darden Elementary School Gymnasium from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. now through March 30, 2012.Children under 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
