However, Austin Peay would not score again until junior Leslie Martinez’ three-pointer at the 8:46 mark – an over six-minute drought between baskets. American (4-2) only pieced together a 7-0 scoring run during the drought to take a 37-36 lead which was erased by Martinez’ shot on APSU’s ensuing possession.

Both teams exchanged baskets over the next four-plus minutes, Austin Peay leading 52-51 at the four-minute mark. But after that outburst, neither team scored again until Lisa Strack’s basket at the 2:39 mark gave American a 53-52 lead. Ebony Edwards extended the lead to three points, 55-52, one minute later.

Meghan BussabargerBussabarger made a pair of free throws with 1:02 left, cutting the lead to 55-54. The Lady Govs fended off a pair of Eagles possessions and gained its final possession with four seconds remaining. Austin Peay got the ball to a wide-open Nicole Olszewski but her shot hit the front of the rim as time expired.

Austin Peay made 40 percent (10-of-25) of its shots in the opening period and added 8-of-10 from the free-throw line to build a 28-22 halftime lead. However, the Lady Govs cooled off considerably in the second half, making just 27.3 percent (9-of 33) of its second-half attempts.
