Customer Foils a Face Painted Man’s Attempted Robbery

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On November 27th, 2011, around 9:30pm, 911 received an odd call about a suspicious person inside of Walgreens, 1954 Madison Street.

The caller said a man inside of Walgreens appeared to be wearing some sort of facial make up to alter his appearance, wearing all black clothing, hanging around the pharmacy, went outside to smoke, was watching people, and then reentered the store.

When Officers Dana Prins and William Becker arrived, they found the “suspicious person” seated in a chair near the pharmacy.  He was wearing all black clothing, including a ski cap, and gloves. The suspect had on two different color face paints on his face; one of the face paints was used to draw on a goatee.

When he was asked about the use of facial paint, he became defensive and very nervous.  He had no identification in his possession and was unwilling to give his name to the officers. Shortly after that, he told officers there was a BB gun in his waistband. The BB gun looked like a real handgun and had no markings to indicate it was not a real firearm.

When he was pressed for his name and date of birth, he gave officers false information. Later, he recanted and finally provided his real name and date of birth. As officers continued the investigation, the suspect was evasive and provided several conflicting stories.
