Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Clarksville High School has so much tradition with basketball so what’s like being a senior on the boys basketball team?

Daijon Williams: It’s great. We have a great coach (Ted Young) and every game with the environment we know it’s know it’s going to be a big game. Everybody wants to beat Clarksville High. We have a great tradition and I love being a part of it.

Clarksville Sports Network: Is it weird that we’re all ready in December and you’re already halfway through your final season playing high school basketball?

Daijon Williams: Yes, it is kind of weird. I’m just playing every game like it’s my last.

Clarksville Sports Network: You’re looking to go play college basketball and Austin Peay, Murray State and Coastal Carolina are some of the schools recruiting you. So what’s it like when you’re being recruited and people are looking at you to go play for them?

Daijon Williams: It’s an interesting and kind of hard. I just go out there and play my game and try not to worry about it. I just worry about it when I’m off the court. But on the court all I can do is just go out and play.

Clarksville Sports Network: Why did you choose to wait and not sign during the early signing period?

Daijon Williams: I just wanted to wait so I can get a few more schools to look at me. If I keep playing well I hope I can get my name out there more and have more people see me.

Clarksville Sports Network: Sitting back and waiting kind of fits your personality doesn’t it?

Daijon Williams: Yeah, I just like to sit back and wait to see how things go.

Clarksville Sports Network: You are originally from the Bronx, New York, and that you’re a big Yankees fan. How hard is it to be here around a lot of Braves and Cardinals fans.

Daijon Williams: It’s not that hard, because I only brag about them when we’re winning.

Clarksville Sports Network: Your favorite player is New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul. What do you like about him?

Daijon Williams: I like his heart and he makes his team play so much better when he’s out there. He’s just an amazing player. I like how he plays the game, how he drives the lane and how he shoots. He’s tough inside, a small guy but he’s still tough. He’s 6-foot and plays like he’s 6-foot-6. I just like his style of play.

Clarksville Sports Network: Being a senior on the Clarksville High team means you have to by a leader. Talk about the things coach Young has instilled in you.

Daijon Williams: We have a lot of young guards so this year he wants me to teach them the things he taught me when I was a young guard. So I just try to do that.

Clarksville Sports Network: How tough is it to do that?

Daijon Williams: It’s pretty tough. I just try to stay positive in practice so they can look at me as a good role model.

Clarksville Sports Network: How special is it to be in a city that has so many signing to go play Division I basketball? You’ve got your five on the Clarksville High girls’ team all going Division I and Kenwood’s Blake Jenkins going to Hampton and Northeast’s Alex Poythress going to Kentucky.

Daijon Williams: I knew this was going to happen. When I was in eighth grade I knew we all would be going to big place. So I’m happy it’s happening. I’m just waiting for my turn.

Clarksville Sports Network: This is a fun time in life, isn’t it?

Daijon Williams: Yes it is
