Clarksville Transit System offers “Operation Safe Ride”

Clarksville Transit SystemClarksville, TN – The Clarksville Transit System will offer “Operation Safe Ride” on New Year’s Eve again this year.

The free service is open to anyone who is too impaired to drive home. People who live within the city’s limits can call for a ride between the hours of 11:00pm and 4:00am for a ride home.

“Last year, more than 130 people called for rides,” said Jimmy Smith, Director of the Clarksville Transit System. “We’ve made sure that more than 450 people got home safely in the past three years. We’re very pleased to be able to offer the program again this year.”

Anyone who cannot, or should not, drive home on New Year’s Eve can call 931.553.2429 to request a ride. Information is also being posted in restaurants, bars and other stores around town with the phone number. CTS emphasizes that this is not a shuttle service.  People will be picked up at their location and driven directly home.

“Operation Safe Ride is another example of Clarksvillians taking care of each other. We all want to have a good time on New Year’s Eve and celebrate the coming prosperous year,” said Mayor Kim McMillan. “We also want to make sure that everyone is safe. I appreciate the city employees who have agreed to work on “Operation Safe Ride” to help keep everyone on the roads safe on New Year’s Eve.”

If you believe you might need a ride after your New Year’s celebrations, take the number with you and call for a safe ride.  931.553.2429.
