APSU Sports: Austin Peay Tennis
Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team opens its home schedule, 1:30pm, Friday, when it host Memphis at the Governors Indoor Tennis Center.
After a telling loss at Vanderbilt, Monday, the Lady Govs have used the past week to emphasis on lessons learned. With a young lineup and few practices through the early part of the spring semester, Austin Peay looks for continued improvement against Tigers.
Senior Vanja Tomic leads the Lady Govs at No. 1 singles, and is joined in the top of the lineup by two freshmen – Alison Carre and Ornella Di Salvo. Austin Peay’s bottom three also includes a pair of freshmen at Nos. 4 and 5 – Weronika Kurka and Vanessa Tavarez – along with sophomore Andra Cornea at No. 6.Memphis recently handed a shutout loss to Miami (Ohio), picking up a clean sweep of six singles and three doubles matches. The Tigers have three players ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Associations’ top 100 – No. 51 Stefanie Mikesz, No. 60 Courtney Collins and No. 98 Mariya Slupska.
