February Adventure Programs with Outdoor Recreation

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – It’s never too cold for some outdoor fun!  Don’t let the weather keep you inside.  Outdoor Recreation has February programs that will get the entire Family up, outside and active.

Join Outdoor Recreation on February 11th and 12th for a two day, one night ski trip at Ober Mountain Ski Resort. Ober Gatlinburg is one of the best choices for skiing in the Southeast. With nine trails you are sure to spend more time on the slope than waiting in line for the lift.

You will be staying at the Howard Johnson in downtown Gatlinburg. The hotel is just steps away from shopping, dining, and attractions. There will be two people per room so bring a friend or make a new one!  This package includes ski or snowboard rental and a two day lift ticket. The hotel includes a continental breakfast but make sure to bring extra money for meals and exciting Gatlinburg! Cost is $225.00 for skiing or $250.00 if you want to snowboard. Preregistration is required by 12:00pm on February 8th.

Are you interested in learning how to kayak or just want to work on your skills?  Come out to the Whitewater Kayak Pool Clinic on February 18th from 9:00am until 11:00am and Outdoor Rec staff will help you work on various techniques which include boat selection, proper fitting, paddle strokes, bracing, and even the Eskimo roll. These sessions are designed for all experience levels. Cost is $15.00 and ages 12 and above may participate. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on February 15th.

On February 25th from 9:00am until 3:00pm you are invited to join Outdoor Recreation while they ride the exciting and scenic trails at Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns, TN. Here is your chance to ride one of the best bikes on the market, a Cannondale Rush. Let their experienced staff show you how to correctly and safely enjoy the sport of mountain biking.
Montgomery Bell offers 20 miles of professionally developed trails for riding. They will be biking 3-5 miles so be sure and bring your lunch and plenty of water. Bikes, helmets, and gloves will be provided. Ages 14 and up are invited to participate. Cost is $19.00 per person. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on February 22nd.

On February 26th from 12:00pm until 6:00pm you can enjoy a moderate 4.5 mile hike at Land Between the Lakes. Age 10 and above are invited to join Outdoor Recreation on a Honker Trail LBL Day Hike for $15.00. Located near the south end of LBL, this trail is named for the Canadian geese often seen and heard along the trail.

Situated on the edge of a beautiful lake, the trail travels along the shoreline of Honker Lake, ridges, lakeshore meadows, and hardwood forest. Bring water and food to snack on the trail. Preregistration is required by 4:00pm on February 24th.

Outdoor Recreation also does customized private trips for units or Family Readiness Groups (FRGs). Trip registration can be done in person or over the phone, seven days a week, between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm. Locations and times of trips are subject to change due to weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for each event. Cancellations initiated by the participant 48 hours in advance of the trip are entitled to a full refund. However, refunds for cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip will be determined by management. Outdoor Recreation reserves the right to postpone, alter, or cancel any trip.
