Vanja Tomic named Copies in a Flash Austin Peay Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityVanja TomicClarksville, TN – Vanja Tomic, a senior on the Austin Peay State University women’s tennis team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

Despite battling injuries, the Bosnia native was able to win both matches this week at No. 1 singles. At Samford, she defeated Kristin Lewis (7-5, 7-5) in straight sets.

Then in the Lady Govs first outdoor match, Tomic defeated Paula Alvarez by the same score. After opening the season with back-to-back losses against Vanderbilt and Memphis, she has now won four straight No. 1 singles matches.


The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included

Senior Whitney Hanley, of the women’s basketball team, recorded her season’s first double-double with a 23-point, 12-rebound performance against UT Martin. The 12 rebounds tied her career high. Hanley followed that with a 16-point, eight-rebound effort against Tennessee Tech.

Sophomore Xiamar Richards, of the track and field team, set a personal best time of 10:22.01 to finish second in the 3000-meter run. She improved her best time by more than 30 seconds and it became the OVC’s third best time. The Lady Govs finished second at the SIU Invitational, topping the three other OVC schools at the meet.
