Opens in Temporary Location February 22nd

Blanchfield Army Hospital - Fort Campbell KYFort Campbell, KY – The Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH) Women’s Health Clinic, also known as the OB/GYN Clinic, stops clinical services temporarily from February 16th-21st while the clinic moves to a temporary location.

The impact on patients should be minimal, as these dates fall on a holiday weekend when BACH outpatient services will already be running on a condensed schedule Friday, February 17th during a day of no scheduled activity (DONSA) and closed Monday February 20th in honor of Washington’s Birthday, a federal holiday.Pregnant patients who need medical services during duty hours for non-obstetric (OB) related issues should be seen by their primary care manager. A dedicated OB provider will be available during duty hours to assist patients and staff with OB related medical issues. In addition, patients may call 270.798.8151 and press option 7 to speak with a Women’s Health Advice Nurse Thursday, February 16th and Tuesday, February 21st from 7:30am to 4:30pm.

While the clinic is closed February 16th – 21st, patients with OB-related issues should follow normal procedures for holidays, DONSAs, weekends and after duty hours. Women who are more than 20 weeks pregnant should report to Labor and Delivery, located in the A Building, Level 2.

Patients with OB-related issues who are less than 20 weeks pregnant should report to the Emergency Center for evaluation.

The Women’s Health Clinic will reopen February 22nd in a temporary location, Building T-9169, where it will operate for approximately one year. The temporary location is located beside the hospital’s “C” building overflow parking area, near the Bank of America on Bastogne Avenue and next to the new Child Development Center being built on Bastogne Avenue.

Patients parking in the overflow parking area and in the C parking area will have easy access to the temporary clinic. In addition, BACH will increase the number of OB parking spaces near the main hospital entrances to make it easier for OB patients who need to pick up prescriptions or complete other errands.

This move allows BACH to renovate the permanent Women’s Health Clinic, creating space for more providers to offer care while incorporating the medical home model.

Chief of Women’s Health Lt. Col. Marshall Malinowski said that the original space was designed and built in the late 1970s and early 1980s when there were fewer women in the military. The new space will see an increase in exam rooms, from 21 to 36, as well as more space for medical providers and support staff. The renovated clinic will allow staff to provide medical care more efficiently in an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.

To reduce trips to the main hospital for patients, the temporary clinic will offer some laboratory and immunization services on site. In addition, plans for the temporary location include a Centering Pregnancy room so patients may continue with the voluntary program. These services are in line with the medical home model of care that will be implemented in the permanent location at a later date.

Medical homes, like BACH’s community based clinic — the Screaming Eagle Medical Home, typically offer patients more one-on-one time with their provider, empowers patients to be actively engaged in their medical care process and offers more education which encourages wellness. “The medical home concept has been so successful that the Army Medical Command has decided that all primary care clinics will be moving to the medical home model,” Malinowski said.
