APSU Sports: Austin Peay Women’s Basketball
Brentwood, TN – Austin Peay State University freshman guard Shelby Olszewski has been named the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Olszewski, of Pickerington, Ohio, scored 11 points in Austin Peay’s 85-72 victory at Murray State, Monday. She was 4-of-6 from the floor, including a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range. Each of her three-pointers came in the opening eight minutes – the first tied the game early and the last pushed the lead to 10 points later in the half. In addition to her scoring in the Lady Govs win, Olszewski also recorded five assists, four rebounds and two steals while playing a game-best 39 minutes. Her effort helped the Lady Govs end their eight-game losing streak and put them into a tie for the final spot in the upcoming OVC Championship with three games remaining in the regular season.
Olszewski is the second Lady Govs player to receive weekly recognition this season. She joins senior guard Whitney Hanley, who was named the league’s Player of the Week after the season’s opening week.
