Lauren deCastro named Copies in a Flash Austin Peay Athlete of the Week

Austin Peay State UniversityLauren de CastroClarksville, TN – Lauren de Castro, a sophomore on the Austin Peay State University softball team, has been named the Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week.

The Torrance, CA, native earned all-tournament honors at the Kennesaw State Classic this past weekend after hitting a two-out grand slam in the top of the seventh inning against Mercer, in the classic opener. de Castro’s grand slam enabled the Lady Govs to post a come-from-behind 11-9 victory over the Bears in extra innings after being down 7-1 heading into the seventh inning.

The only Lady Gov to make the all-tournament team, de Castro finished the classic with a .364 batting average and a team best five RBI, a .636 slugging percentage and a .462 on-base percentage. She also scored a run and drew two walks.

The Copies in a Flash APSU Athlete of the Week is selected by the APSU Sports Information staff each Tuesday during the academic year. Copies in a Flash, of Clarksville, sponsors the award.

Other notable performances by Austin Peay athletes included:

Junior Chantelle Grey, of the track and field team, finished sixth at the SPIRE Invitational 800-meter run with a 2:08.41 time. The time is the Ohio Valley Conference’s best this season and also puts her in the NCAA top-50 at 46th.

Sophomore Jasmin Ademovic, of the men’s tennis team, won both singles matches at No. 1 against Western Kentucky and UAB. In doubles play, Ademovic and freshman Iago Seffrin won at No. 2 doubles in a tiebreak. On the season, Ademovic is 3-0 at No. 1 singles.

Junior Kaitlyn Hill, of the women’s basketball team, scored 19 second-half points to help Austin Peay pull away in a win at Murray State, Monday. She was 8-of-12 from the floor in the second half with four rebounds. It was her sixth consecutive double-digit scoring outing.

Freshman Shelby Olszewski, was named OVC’s “Freshman of the Week” after scoring 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting in the win over Murray State. She made three of her four three-point attempts. Her first three tied the game early and her third pushed the lead to 10 points later in the first half. Olszewski also recorded two steals, four rebounds and five assists.
