Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball’s Lauren de Castro named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week

Nashville, TN – Sophomore pitcher Lauren de Castro, who picked up a pair of complete-game Austin Peay State University softball victories last week, has been Ohio Valley Conference co-Pitcher of the Week.

The Torrance, CA, native shares the award with Eastern Kentucky’s Leanna Pittsenbarger. It is Austin Peay’s first OVC weekly pitcher honor since the 2010 season.

For the week, the second-year hurler pitched 12 innings, permitting six hits and zero earned runs. Opponents hit just .140 against her during the week. That included a three-hit five-inning 11-0 shutout of defending Southwestern Athletic Conference champion Jackson State, last Monday.

In tossing APSU’s first true road shutout since 2009 she helped lower her overall earned-run average to 0.88 for the season. She also limited Trevecca to three hits and zero earned runs in Austin Peay’s 8-4 win last Wednesday.

In addition, de Castro is Austin Peay’s leading hitter so far this season, batting .391 with nine RBI.
