City of Clarksville announces Lane Closures March 1st through March 4th on Third Street

City of ClarksvilleClarksville, TN – On Thursday morning, March 1st, 2012, work will begin on Third Street downtown.

Beginning at approximately 9:00am, the right hand travel lane and associated parking spaces will be closed so that the parallel parking brackets currently in place can be replaced with diagonal spaces.

This will almost double the parking volume on Third Street. The right hand lane and parking space closures will remain in effect until the morning of Monday, March 5th, 2012.

In addition to the new diagonal spaces, traffic signals in the area will be transitioned to “flashing red” on Monday morning.  The effected signals are located at the Second and Franklin intersection, the Second and Commerce intersection, the Third and Commerce intersection and the Third and Franklin intersection.

“These changes may seem minor but they provide much needed additional parking and allow for a better traffic flow in the area,” said Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan. “Our goal, of course, is to make these changes quickly and safely with as little interruption as possible to normal routines. I appreciate our Street Department and the Parking Authority’s work on making this happen quickly and cooperatively.”
