Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University men and women’s tennis teams will face Troy and South Alabama, Tuesday and Wednesday, as part of its Spring Break trip south.

The week-long trip south will prove pivotal for the Govs and Lady Govs as head coach Malik Tabet will attempt to make final tune ups before Ohio Valley Conference play starts, March 17th against SIU Edwardsville.

“We’ve had some good practice in some good weather,” Tabet said from Mobile, AL “We’re looking forward to facing a pair of strong teams over the next few days. It’s been interesting to watch our young kids develop in a short time. What we’ve discovered is that a lot of the issues we’re facing are mental, so that’s one thing we’re going to be focusing on this week.”

Developing an on-court strategy has been a focal point for this young group of Govs and Lady Govs. The Govs lineup includes up to four freshmen – Dimitar Ristovski, Aleksas Tverijonas, Iago Seffrin and Michal Hriciste – while the Lady Govs also have four freshmen  – Ornella Di Salvo, Alison Carre, Jovana Karac and Vanessa Tavares.

Junior Sean Bailey and sophomore Jasmin Ademovic consistently have topped the Govs lineup for the past two seasons and have been just as good during 2012. Ademovic started the season at No. 1 singles, where he posted a 4-0 mark and has recently moved to No. 2 where he split his last two matches. Bailey, meanwhile, won four matches at No. 2 singles and has a 1-2 mark at No. 1.

The Lady Govs have been keyed by the impressive play of senior Vanja Tomic at No. 1 singles. The former OVC Player of the Year has been red hot, winning seven-straight No. 1 singles matches, including two wins over ITA-ranked opponents.
