APSU Sports: Austin Peay Men’s Golf
Pauma Val ley, CA – Austin Peay men’s golf team will face a familiar course when they tee off at San Francisco’s Triumph at Pauma Valley, Monday and Tuesday.
The 54-hole tournament starts with 36 continuous holes, Monday, followed by an 18-hole final round, Tuesday, at the Pauma Valley Country Club. A 7,077-yard, par-71, Robert Trent Jones Sr. course, Pauma Valley offers a similar design to the Fighting Joe Course, where the Govs won their last Ohio Valley Conference championship.

Last year, Austin Peay opened the Spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Triumph, led by sophomore Marco Iten’s t-14th, two-over par finish. Junior Dustin Korte and sophomore Anthony Bradley each finished in the top-25, while sophomore Trey Tarpley finished t-30th at five-over par.
Head coach Kirk Kayden is relying on familiarity, this season, as his lineup will return Iten, Korte, Bradley and Tarpley to Pauma Valley, along with freshman Tucker Wallace to make up the five-player lineup. Senior Drew Miller also will play as an individual.
“It will be a big advantage for us to have four players who’ve been on this course before,” Kayden said. “It’s a very difficult and firm course. It will be a good test for our guys to continue to improve their games. We’re fortunate to be able to go to California and compete.”
The Govs are coming off a second-place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate, last week. Korte finished second overall and was named the OVC’s co-Golfer of the Week. The Govs made up 21 shots on Samford, climbing from fifth to second place with a tremendous final-round effort.
Austin Peay is one of 10 teams competing in the Triumph, joining host San Francisco (ranked 60 by GolfWeek), Central Arkansas (No.110), Columbia (No. 159) and Bowling Green (No. 177).
