Austin Peay Lady Govs Tennis win Ohio Vally Conference opener against the SIU Edwardsville Cougars

Vanja Tomic Wins 11th Straight Match

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay women’s tennis team opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 5-2 win against SIU Edwardsville, Saturday.

The Lady Govs the top two doubles matches, setting the stage for a strong performance on the singles side to wrap it up.

Senior Vanja Tomic and Alison Carre won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while also earning wins on the singles side. Sophomore Andra Cornea and freshman Ornella Di Salvo won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Tomic won her 11th-straight match at No. 1 singles, which has her six matches away from tying her consecutive wins streak set in 2010. Carre earned her singles win at No. 3. Austin Peay also got straight-set wins from Di Salvo and Cornea.

The Lady Govs continue a difficult schedule with a Tuesday match at Middle Tennessee before returning to OVC play, Saturday, at Southeast Missouri.
