Austin Peay State University now an Apple Authorized Training Center for Education

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University recently became an Apple Authorized Training Center for Education (AATCE), the only one in Tennessee.

“I think this is a great opportunity for our University and our department,” said Kathy Heuston, associate professor of communication who has spearheaded the effort for APSU’s program.

The AATCE program provides benefits to schools that use Apple’s professional software solutions in their own academic curriculum. Academic institutions incorporate the Apple Certified Pro Training into their existing accredited curriculum and administer certification to their enrolled students and faculty.

AATCEs deliver Apple’s proprietary courses to their own students and faculty through Apple certified trainers who meet Apple’s quality standards.

Heuston, an Apple certified trainer in Final Cut Pro software used in current television shows, films and recording studios, teaches COMM 4790 Non-Linear Editing, an eight-week course. Students who successfully complete the Apple Final Cut Pro X certification exam at the end of the course will earn certification from Apple.

“This was only available for students who went to a training center in Nashville but now they can do it here at APSU,” Heuston said.

She also said APSU is working to become an Apple Authorized Training Center, allowing the University to offer certified classes and exams to the general public. In addition, both the communication department and Extended Education will offer a Final Cut Pro X certification course during the upcoming May term.
