Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announces City Department Budget Hearings Schedule

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan is announcing the budget hearing schedule for the City’s various Departments.

“Beginning with the campaign and through my time in office, I have consistently said that I believe open budget hearings are a vital part of good government. I want members of the public to be able to see how their tax dollars are being spent and to hear the budget process,” Mayor McMillan said.

“I believe it’s also important that citizens see that the City’s government is following through on our priorities and needs as well as being responsible with our funds. Last year was the first year that budget hearings had been open to the public in Clarksville and I will continue that practice as long as I’m the Mayor.” said Mayor McMillan.

City Departments will each present their budget requests to the Mayor. These requests will then be reviewed and considered when the Mayor presents the full budget proposal for the 2013 budget year to the City Council.

“As with the current fiscal year, I am confident that the City’s Department Heads will present budget requests and recommendations that adhere to our commitment to a safe and growing city. The budget, much like a household budget, is a guide for how the city will operate as well as how it will address its fiscal priorities. We know from the challenges we met last year that a well-planned budget can weather the storms of economic difficulty while providing for the needs of the citizens and the employees who provide vital services,” said Mayor McMillan.

All of the hearings will be held in the City Council Chambers, located at 106 Public Square in Clarksville.
Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend. Videos of the hearings will be available on the City’s website at www.cityofclarksville.com within 24 hours of their conclusion.
