Austin Peay Lady Govs Softball close out non-conference play at Evansville Purple Aces

Austin Peay State University Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will close out its non-conference portion of its 2012 schedule on the road, 5:00pm, Wednesday at James & Dorothy Cooper Stadium with a doubleheader versus the University of Evansville.

The Lady Govs (15-27) are 12-29 all-time versus the Purple Aces, but the two teams haven’t played each other since April 7th, 2010, when Austin Peay swept a doubleheader at APSU, 9-8 and 3-1.

Evansville (13-31) will be entering the doubleheader coming off a Missouri Valley Conference game versus Southern Illinois Carbondale, Tuesday night, and are currently last in the MVC standings.

Austin Peay is led offensively by sophomore first baseman/pitcher Lauren de Castro, who is hitting at a robust .403 clip for the season, with team bests in runs scored (26), RBI (27), slugging percentage (.640), on-base percentage (.454), doubles (10), home runs (7) and walks (13).

Paige NeelyFreshman shortstop Paige Neely is the only other Lady Govs hitting more than .300 after 42 games this season and enters the Wednesday with a .333 batting average, 17 RBI and 13 runs scored.

In the circle, junior Morgan Brewer leads the Lady Govs pitching staff with a 7-13 win-loss mark this season and owns a 3.57 ERA to go with 92 strikeouts in 131.1 innings of work.

Lauren de CastroLeading the team in ERA (2.70) is de Castro, who sports a 5-5 record with 55 strikeouts in 80.1 inning of work.

Senior Ashley Bolda and sophomore Taylor Mills also have Lady Govs’ pitching wins this season.

Evansville is led offensively by Kayla Fortner, who enters the matchup batting .370 and a team-best 27 RBI.

Sarah Patterson paces the Evansville pitching staff with 130.1 innings pitched that has translated into a 7-15 overall record, a 3.49 ERA and 100 strikeouts.
