USAA Military Spouse Appreciation Week is May 7th-11th, 2012

This year’s theme is “Bloom Where You Are Planted” which embodies the understanding that military Spouses may get uprooted frequently through PCS moves, but they personally develop and grow from their experiences and sacrifices in each new environment. The events will kick off on May 7th with the Military Spouse Workshop Day at 8:15am in Family Resource Center (FRC).

The Workshop Day is a full day of activities that will uplift, enlighten and motivate Spouses. Throughout the day, Spouses can participate in four different seminars. Seminar topics range from basic auto care, Federal job opportunities using USA Staffing, Americana crafts, to so much more.

Maria McConville, wife of Major General James C. McConville, will be the guest speaker and give the opening remarks at this event. Registration is required prior to the event and some seminars will have additional fees. Childcare and lunch will be provided.

Following the Workshop Day, Spouses can look forward to a week filled with exciting events and activities. On May 8th, special guest Chef Jon Ashton will host two Cooking Shows at 10:00am to noon and 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the FRC.

On May 9th, Spouses can check out the hottest styles and trends for teen, men’s and women’s fashion as The Exchange partners with Family and MWR for the Fashion Show. The Fashion Shows will take place at 10:00am and 5:30pm at the Joe Swing Recreation Center.

May 10th will be a special day dedicated to fitness. There will be an early morning Physical Training at 6:30am as well as other fitness activities later in the day.

The Estep Wellness Center staff will instruct Yoga, Turbo Kick, and a three hour Zumba session at the Joe Swing Recreational Center. 150 spots are limited for the Cooking Show and Fashion Show and 100 spots are limited for the fitness classes. Free childcare will only be provided for all events for the week except for Fitness Day.

After a week full of activities, Spouses relax and pamper themselves by attending the popular Spa Night on May 11th at 6:00pm in the FRC. In addition to spa services, Spouses can taste delicious food and vendor samples, dip their favorite treats in the chocolate fountain and win fabulous prizes.

Unlike other events, no registration is required for Spa Night, but spa services will be issued on a first come, first serve basis. Free childcare is also provided at this event.
