Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency events to help launch National Safe Boating Week

 

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - TWRANashville, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be participating in events to promote the wear of life jackets as the 2012 boating season prepares to launch in full swing.

The Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day is Friday, May 18th with the goal of demonstrating how easy it is to wear a life jacket. On Saturday, May 19th Ready, Set, Wear It!, will enter its third year in trying to bring awareness on the importance of life jacket wear by holding a world record day.

Both events help usher in National Safe Boating Week which runs from May 19th-25th right at the start of the Memorial Day Weekend and the summer boating season. Boating partners across the United States and Canada are teaming to promote safe boating practices, including the wear of life jackets for National Safe Boating Week and throughout the 2012 boating season.

The goal of National Safe Boating Week is to educate the public about the importance of following safe boating practices and wearing life jackets while on the water.

On Ready, Set, Wear It! day, there will be several events across the state as Tennessee participates to set a world record for the number of life jackets worn.

The TWRA, along with West Marine, will be hosting an event at West Marine’s location at 5566 Old Hickory Boulevard in Hermitage, TN at 11:30am.

Other events in the state scheduled are:

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosting events at Cheatham Lake Resources Managers Office at 9:00am.
  • Cordell Hull Lake Resources Managers Office in Carthage at 10:00am.
  • Dale Hollow Dam in Celina at noon
  • Seven Points Campground in Hermitage at 10:30am.
  • Floating Mill Campground in Silver Point at 10:00am.
  • Johnson City Sail and Power Squadron at 11:30am.
  • Dale Hollow-Obey River Day Use Beach at noon and Cedar Creek Day Use Beach at 1:00pm.

Participants are asked to bring their life jackets.
