Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend at Land Between the Lakes with River Days

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Experience River Days May 26th-28th, at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area.  Enjoy water-themed activities at Woodlands Nature Station (NS) in the Kentucky Portion of LBL.

The public is invited to join the celebration of National Wetlands Month Memorial Day Weekend.  According to Darrin Samborski, Environmental Education Specialist at LBL, “A variety of programs focusing on natural encounters with wetland wildlife and habitat conservation will be offered at the NS. Visitors will learn all about the animals that make rivers and lakes their homes.”

Samborski added, “There will be onsite programs, crafts, and excursions out on the water.  Bring sunscreen, picnic baskets, and for certain activities, clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and muddy.”

NS River Days has activities and events for all ages.

Saturday, May 26th

“CSI: Critter Scene Investi-“gators” Scavenger Hunt” & Meet Smokey Bear (throughout the day)

11:00am – Gentle Giants: Alligator Snapping Turtles

1:30pm – Wet & Wacky Games

3:30pm – The Lorax Puppet Show

6:00pm-8:30pm – Sunset Canoe Trip

Sunday, May 27th

11:30am – Barkley’s Beasts BIG & Small

1:00pm-3:00pm – Crazy Quacker Kids’ Craft

3:00pm – Riverside Jeopardy

6:00pm-8:30pm – Family Oriented Sunset Canoe Trip

Monday, May 28th

11:00am – King of the Fishermen: The Bald Eagle

1:30pm – Purple Martin Mania

3:00pm – Let the Turtle Race Begin

Some events require reservations and fees. For more details or to make reservations, call 270.924.2020 weekdays, 8:00am to 4:30pm. LBL is located approximately 90 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.  There are several options for overnight accommodations; camping is available at LBL and at private campgrounds in the area. Lodging is also available at state resort parks and motels in the surrounding area.

Come Outside and Play at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. Managed by the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Land Between The Lakes provides outdoor recreation and environmental education for the public to enjoy.
