Clarksville, TN – The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family.

This weeks highlights include:

• Annual Independence Day Celebration
• People’s Choice Movie- vote now!
• Beat the Heat, Participate in an Aquatics Class
• Only a few weeks left of the Summer Youth Program
• Acoustic Night at Jammin’ in the Alley

Annual Independence Day Celebration

The City of Clarksville, Aetna Insurance and U.S. Bank invite you to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day on July 3rd at McGregor Park. This year’s FREE festivities are set to kick off at 6:00pm. with the music of local favorites Tina Brown and Mike Bryant, followed by Clarksville’s largest fireworks display.

With the food, music and fun, everyone is sure to have a great time.

People’s Choice Movie- vote now!

Voting is coming to an end for this year’s “people’s choice” movie. Visit www.parksafterdark.com , to choose what movie you want to see played at the July 21st showing of the Movies in the Park summer series. Voting ends June 30th.

Beat the Heat, Participate in an Aquatics Class

Aqua Zumba integrates the Zumba formula and philosophy with traditional aqua fitness disciplines. Classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00pm at Beachaven pool and on Wednesdays at 8:00am at New Providence pool. All fitness levels are welcome; no dancing or swimming skills are required. Cost is $3.00 per class with or without pass.

Tone and strengthen the whole body while focusing on the upper back, arms, legs and abdomen with our aqua belly dance class. Classes are held Wednesdays from 5:00pm to 5:45pm at Beachaven pool and Mondays from 5:15pm to 7:00pm at New Providence pool. Cost is $5.00 per class.

Only a few weeks left of the Summer Youth Program

The City of Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department’s six-week Summer Youth Program will come to an end Friday, July 13th. The day-camp type program which is offered each summer to youth ages 6 to 16 at no cost will end the program with a free outdoor movie showing of “Happy Feet 2” at Heritage Park, July 13th from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.

Prior to the end of program movie showing, The Roxy Regional Theatre’s Summer Playhouse will hold a special performance July 12th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Roxy where participants will be able to show off their dance and improvisation skills they have mastered over the course of the theatre workshop.

Acoustic Night at Jammin’ in the Alley

The City of Clarksville and U.S. Bank will soon be jammin’ once again, Friday, July 20th in downtown Clarksville’s Strawberry Alley. This month’s free concert will feature a medley of acoustic artists to include Michael Jacobs, Lydia Walker, Rebecca Forehand, Freight Train, and Dustin Overbeek.

Free concerts take place every third Friday of the month thru October and begin at 7:00pm. In addition to the live music and market vendors, downtown restaurants will offer outdoor dining for Jammin’ in the Alley and night market patrons. Come ready to eat, dance and shop!
