City of Clarksville Forced to Consider Possible Fireworks Ban as a Result of Drought Conditions

Clarksville TN Top Spot LogoClarksville, TN – The hot and dry conditions that have gripped Clarksville has many residents concerned about shooting fireworks during the Fourth of July holiday.  The City of Clarksville usually allows  fireworks to be shot between July 1st-7th in the city limits.  There are no restrictions in the county.

Clarksville Online has learned that Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan has had discussions with fire officials about those concerns, and will make a decision if the weather does not improve.

The Fourth of July is one of the busiest times of the year for fireworks sales, and fireworks displays.  The City of Clarksville will have it’s Independence Day celebration July 3rd at McGregor Park.

One source tells Clarksville Online, “Can you imagine the grief the Mayor would take if she banned fireworks on the fourth?”

The decision to ban fireworks is a “no-win” situation for city officials.  If they don’t impose a ban, and fires are started as a result, then City Hall takes a hit.  The city makes a lot of money selling permits to sell fireworks, and open fireworks stands this time of the year, and if the residents aren’t allowed to shoot those fireworks, then that’s a problem.

Clarksville Online will keep you updated on any decisions made about fireworks.  Listen to our news partner, WJZM 1400 AM for the best coverage of local news and current events.
