Clarksville Police arrest Two Men after Fireworks Confrontation

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On July 3rd, 2012, around 8:00pm, Clarksville Police Officers responded to a combination Aggravated Assault and Fireworks call at 109 Coyote Court.

When Officer Sunisa Bridgforth arrived, she was flagged down by Matthew James Robinson, 29 who had his friend and neighbor, James Michael Smith, 34, standing next to him. Smith was bleeding from the nose.

As Officer Bridgforth conducted her investigation, she discovered there were multiple players and factors involved. The altercation started over fireworks being shot in the Coyote Court neighborhood.  James Smith confronted Ronald Sumner, 21 and his 14 year old brother about shooting fireworks.

According to a witness, Smith pushed 21 year old Ronald Sumner at which time Sumner punched Smith in the face. Smith retreated to his car, retrieved a handgun from the trunk, and pointed it at Sumner threatening to use it if he didn’t leave. At some point during the confrontation, Robinson also retrieved a handgun, pointed it at Sumner and told him to leave.

Smith was taken to the hospital, treated for facial injuries, and then booked into Montgomery County Jail.

The juvenile was issued a citation for Unlawful to Explode Fireworks.

The lead investigator is Officer Sunisa Bridgforth.
