Dunbar Cave State Park Programs for July 15th through July 21st
Dunbar Cave State Natural Area will present many nature programs this summer. Upcoming events include: Pine Cone Feeders, Nature Hike, Night Animals, Childrens Crafts, Animal Olympics and so much more! Programs are free unless noted otherwise. All programs require reservations by the deadline listed. Programs with no reservations by the deadline are canceled.All programs begin at the Visitor Center unless another site is listed. *Dunbar Cave State Park reserves the right to cancel some programs in case of extreme heat or inclement weather. Children must be accompanied by an adult (one adult for each three children). The age limits are definite – please do not sign up a child who is too young or too old for the program. Sunday, July 15thCave Wonders Time: 3:00pm – 4:00pm Explore the cool cave entrance, look for the critters that call it home like phoebes, salamanders, spiders and millipedes. Program Leader: Dave Webb, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Monday, July 16thNature Readings: Friends Time: 3:00pm – 4:00pm Meet at the cool cave entrance and listen to stories about friends in nature. Program Leader: Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist Tuesday, July 17thCave Entrance Habitat Study Time: 4:00pm – 5:00pm We can’t enter the cave, but we can see what we find at the cave entrance. Program Leader: Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist Night Hike Time: 8:15pm – 9:15pm Here’s your chance to be in the park past closing time. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and walk a mile as we explore the woods and lakeshore for nocturnal critters such as bats, owls, deer, frogs, and raccoons. Program Leader: Adam Neblett, Park Ranger Wednesday, July 18thAcorn Extravaganza Time: 10:00am – 11:00am Learn fun facts about acorns, the fruits of the mighty oaks around us, and make an acorn necklace to take home with you. Program Leader: Dave Webb, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Micro Hike Time: 3:00pm – 4:30pm Get down and dirty on the ground to discover insects and their habitats. Program Leader: Adam Neblett, Park Ranger Lake Life Time: 7:30pm – 8:30pm What lives in the lake? We’ll walk around the easy Lake Trail and learn about the aquatic plants and animals that make it home. Program Leader: Adam Neblett, Park Ranger Thursday, July 19thPine Cone Feeders Time: 9:00am – 10:00am Make a fun feeder (with pine cones, peanut butter and bird seed) to feed the birds. Program Leader: Dave Webb, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Friday, July 20thNature Hike Time: 8:00pm – 9:30pm Walk with the park interpreter and find out what we can see in the woods and along the lake. Program Leader: Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist The Human Sundial Time: 10:00am – 10:30am How can you tell time without a watch? Learn how to tell time by using your shadow, then make a sundial to take home with you. Program Leader: Dave Webb, Seasonal Interpretive Ranger Turtles Time: 2:00pm – 3:30pm We can always count on seeing turtles! Learn about the reptiles that have a shell. Program Leader: Amy Wallace, Interpretive Specialist Night Animals Time: 8:15pm – 9:15pm Walk with us as we explore the woods, cave entrance and lakeshore for nocturnal critters such as owls, deer, frog, bats, raccoons, salamanders and night insects. Program Leader: Adam Neblett, Park Ranger Saturday, July 21stChildrens Crafts Time: 10:30am Join Clarksville Children’s’ Theatre as they make crafts for use in the presentation to follow. No Reservations Needed. Animal Olympics Time: 11:00am Clarksville Children’s Theatre present a skit on the Olympics with animal costumes. Meet at the cave entrance. No Reservations Needed. Childrens Crafts Time: 12:30pm Join Clarksville Children’s Theatre as they make crafts for use in the presentation to follow. No Reservations Needed. Animal Olympics Time: 1:00pm Clarksville Children’s Theatre repeats its skit on the Olympics. Meet at the cave entrance. No Reservations Needed. Don’t Be A Bully – Plant Native Time: 4:00pm – 5:00pm Some plants will take over the woods and natural areas – learn what plants you shouldn’t have in a garden.
