The week-long RockSTAR Camp is July 23rd – 27th, 9:00am–3:00pm, and features music instruction and jamming with professional Nashville rockers (including guitar, bass, drum, keyboard and vocal training), music production workshops (including rock fashion and designing promotional items such as a t-shirt, poster and CD) and song crafting both rock classics and original tunes using the program’s new iPads.

Each band will record their own song and take home their CD as well as the t-shirt and poster. The week will culminate in a special concert at The Renaissance Center where the kids will thrash, wail, strut their stuff and realize their rock star dreams.

One of the unique aspects of the RockSTAR program is that no musical experience or instrument knowledge is necessary to attend the camp. The camp provides all instruments and professional musicians to teach the students and help them hone their musical skills. In addition to the musical experience, the program helps children gain self confidence, practice teamwork, explore creative talents and develop a sense of professionalism in a positive and relevant format.

RockSTAR is a STAR Education program that was founded eight years ago with the fundamental mission of bringing music education back into schools that had slashed their own music programs because of budget cuts.

RockSTAR’s notoriety has gained celebrity support from rock icons such as Slash, Santana, Britney Spears, Adam Lambert, Rod Stewart, Taylor Dayne, DMC, Chris Slade of AC/DC, Gene Simmons, Sammy Hagar and more. By harnessing the cognitive, social, and creative benefits of music education, RockSTAR allows children to hone musical skills, gain self confidence, practice teamwork, and develop a sense of professionalism in a positive and relevant format.

RockSTAR is the most established and successful non-profit after-school rock ‘n’ roll music education program in California, with programs now in over 80 elementary schools in Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, New York, and Nashville, TN.

RockSTAR Camps are held at The House of Blues in Los Angeles. The Gibson Showroom in New York City, The Hard Rock Café’s VIP room in San Diego and B.B. King’s Blues Club in Nashville.

“We’re very honored that STAR Education has selected The Renaissance Center for July’s RockSTAR Summer Camp and this is a lifetime opportunity for Dickson area kids to learn from the pros and get a jump start on an exciting music career,” states Bob Kucher, Director of Fine Arts at The Renaissance Center. “Plus it’s just great fun! The kids go home with wonderful memories plus a music CD, poster and t-shirt too!”

“I’ve seen this program in action and it’s amazing what they get in to the week-long camp,” explains Marketing Director Melissa Cross. “The kids eat it all up – they can’t get enough. And by the end of the week they’re really pumped to get on stage and perform.” “Many of us here wish they had something like RockSTAR Camp when we were young,” Cross adds.  “If they did who knows where some of us would be!”
