Clarksville Police reports handgun accidentally discharges killing a Man

Clarksville Police DepartmentClarksville, TN – On July 14th, 2012, around 5:30pm, officers responded to a shots fired call at the apartments at 218 South 3rd Street.

When Clarksville Police Officers arrived they found a man, Gregory Erik Premus, 28, inside an apartment who had sustained a gunshot wound to the torso of the body, from a handgun. He was transported to Gateway Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Gregory Erik Premus and Robert Alan Brown, 30, who were friends, had been handling a loaded handgun when the firearm was inadvertently discharged and hit Premus in the torso area.

Gregory Erik Premus (W/M, DOB: 1/19/88, Given address: Clarksville, TN) has been transported to Nashville for autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed. There is no further information to release at this time.

The lead investigator is Detective Mike Ulrey.
