Nashville, TN – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Smith to a one-year, two-way contract worth $660,000 at the National Hockey League level and $65,000 at the American Hockey League level.
Smith, 23 (4/13/89), led the AHL in minutes (3283:59), ranked second among AHL netminders in both wins (31) and shutouts (tie, 5), and ranked fourth in goals-against average (2.17) in his second season with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2011-12. The Dearborn, Michigan, native was recalled by the Predators on three occasions in 2011-12, and served as backup for the first time in his career on January 7th vs. Carolina.
Nashville’s second choice, 54th overall (second round), in the 2007 Entry Draft played parts of four Ontario Hockey League seasons with Plymouth and Niagara, and represented the U.S. at the 2008 World Junior Championships. He was named USA Hockey’s 2007 Dave Peterson Goalie of the Year after appearing in the helping the Plymouth Whalers win the 2007 OHL title and reach the Memorial Cup.
