Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds opened their final homestand of the season with a 4-3 victory over the division-rival Iowa Cubs on Monday at Greer Stadium.
The one-run victory was Nashville’s PCL-leading 28th of the season. Iowa suffered its 32nd one-run defeat. Seven of the 13 games between the two clubs in the series have been decided by one run.
Nashville starter Brian Baker pitched well to collect his fourth victory of the season. The 29-year-old allowed one run on a solo homer in six innings of work, fanning six in 82 pitches (60 strikes). Baker has posted a 2.62 ERA (18er/61.2ip) in his last 12 PCL outings (10 starts).
Washington, D.C. – The Internal Revenue Service today reminded truckers and other owners of heavy highway vehicles that in most cases, their next federal highway use tax return is due on August 31st, 2012.

Clarksville, TN –women’s soccer team continues its four-match home stand, 7:00pm, Tuesday, when the Lady Govs play host to Lipscomb at Morgan Brothers Field.
Austin Peay (2-1-0) used three second-half goals Friday night to topple Appalachian State in the Lady Govs’ home opener. Junior forward Andy Quiceno netted the game-winner, her second in as many games, while junior Tatiana Ariza assisted on both the game-tying and game-winning goals. Ariza was named CollegeSportsMadness.com Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her efforts.
Reward Schools located in 70 districts across the state in cities and rural areas
Brentwood, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman today announced 169 schools as the 2011-12 Reward Schools, the top 5 percent of schools in the state for annual growth and the top 5 percent for academic achievement.
For Montgomery County, the Reward Schools are Montgomery Central Elementary School for performance and progress and Woodlawn Elementary School for performance.

Outfielder Led League In Hits, RBIs While Batting .533 In Seven Games
Nashville, TN –outfielder Caleb Gindl has been named the Pacific Coast League’s Batter of the Week for the August 20-26 period.
The 23-year-old posted a .533 average (16-for-30) with a league-leading 10 RBIs in seven games over the seven-day span. Gindl rapped eight of his league-high 16 hits for extra bases during the week (five doubles, one triple, two home runs).

Rate Decreases in 20 Counties, Increases in 59, and Stays the Same in 16
Nashville, TN – County non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for July 2012, shows the rate decreased in 20 counties, increased in 59, and stayed the same in 16.
Tennessee’s unemployment rate for July increased to 8.4 percent, up from the June revised rate of 8.1 percent. The national unemployment rate for July 2012 was 8.3 percent, 0.1 percentage point higher than the June rate.
